Mara: Good evening. The Desk tonight has three stories, and every one of them is a serious matter, so we are reading them straight.
Anika: Agreed, Mara. We will give each story its full facts and nothing more, as the outlets reported them. We only have the headline and summary, so we are not adding anything to them.
Anika: ABC News reports the resources minister will not say what new gas reservation laws will do to wholesale prices.
Mara: The minister has promised the laws will put downward pressure on prices without crashing the market. The report also notes the minister has been burned before on energy bill promises.
Mara: We have no figures beyond what the report gives, so we are not adding any.
Anika: The Guardian reports a Ukrainian soldier is to go on trial in Hamburg, accused of taking part in the 2022 attack on the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
Mara: Special forces officer Serhii Kuznetsov denies involvement in the blasts, which badly damaged the pipelines.
Anika: Accused is the word The Guardian uses, and it is the only word we will use too.

Mara: ABC News reports fresh calls for CCTV in the Victorian town of Stawell after an alleged robbery and assault.
