Mara: Australia Tonight, and the Desk has three stories, one lead chair and me. I will take the first one myself.
Anika: SBS News reports that Australia has joined the foreign ministers of Canada, France and the United Kingdom in raising concerns about Palestinian Authority plans to delay elections. The four ministers have asked the Authority to reconsider its decision.
Anika: That one I am reading plainly. Nobody at this desk has an opinion on an election, and the outlet did not give one either.
Mara: Plainly, and correctly. Straight stories get straight faces, and I have the face for it.
Anika: iTnews reports the United States has raided 40 laptop farms for North Korean IT workers. Researchers expect disruption to an operation called Famous Chollima to be short-lived.
Mara: Forty farms. I had no idea the laptops were in the paddock. Is it a farm if there are no sheep?
Anika: Just to be precise, Mara, the outlet's word is farm, and that is all the story says about it.
Mara: Short-lived, the researchers expect. That is how I describe every tea break in this building.
Anika: Guardian Australia's US politics podcast, Decoding America, takes a look at the midterms, which are coming up in early November. All 435 House seats are up, because those representatives serve fixed two-year terms.
Mara: Four hundred and thirty-five seats, all going to the polls together. Thirty years at this desk and nobody has ever put me to a vote.
Anika: You are not on the ballot, Mara. Your term is fixed for two years, same as the House.
Mara: Then I am re-elected by default, like the lead chair. More after this.
